Hello there!
I am Monique, the hand and brain behind Get Fonted. I am a luxury calligrapher and engraver based in Johannesburg, South Africa, specialising in modern calligraphy and calligraphy glass engraving. I have worked with the likes of Paco Rabanne, Dior and Netflix.
I love turning words into practical art and teaching others how to do so with Robyn from Calligraphy Joburg in our Beginner Modern Calligraphy Workshops.
My Story
I started teaching myself modern calligraphy as a way to unwind after a day at work in 2017, and now 6 years later, Get Fonted is a registered company and I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most incredible clients and meet wonderful people.
I work full-time at a software company as a director and board member and I moonlight as a calligraphy artist. Primarily I offer my services for corporate projects such as event calligraphy and brand activations.
A few fun facts about me:
• I change my hair colour as often as possible
• I am a huuuuuge Trekkie
• I love teaching modern calligraphy
• I take my tea and coffee with 1 sugar
• My favourite day of the week is Wednesday
• I am obsessed with watching lectures and documentaries in my spare time - no topic is off-limits
• I have a bunch of books I feel guilty about not reading yet
I enjoy conversing with people while doing on-site work which creates a more authentic and engaging experience.
